Kathmandu: Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, Ramesh Lekhak, has called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to brief the House of Representatives (HoR) about his recent visit to India.

Speaking during the emergency hour of today's HoR meeting, Chief Whip Lekhak emphasized the parliamentary norm that requires the Prime Minister to inform the House before embarking on visits to friendly nations. "The Prime Minister embarked on a two-day India visit on June 9. He has not yet briefed the House about his visit even five days later. As the leader of the opposition, I had to remind the Prime Minister that he is the leader of the House," Lekhak stated.

Prime Minister Dahal's visit to India was to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third tenure. Lekhak highlighted that it is not appropriate for the House to learn about the visits of the President and Prime Minister through newspapers. He noted that President Ramchandra Paudel left for Switzerland on June 11 to participate in the 112th session of the International Labour Conference.

Lekhak further pointed out that in some countries, even ministers inform the House about their foreign visits when the House is in session. He urged Speaker Devraj Ghimire to ensure that the House is promptly informed about the Prime Minister's visit to India and the President's visit to Switzerland in the next Parliament meeting.
